Installing humbucker covers in a Schecter Omen 6 guitar

What should have been an incredibly easy operation to improve the aesthetics of this guitar turned out to be... a medium easy operation to improve the aesthetics.  After quite a bit of modification, it turned out rather nicely.

The pickup covers from Amazon, about $8 for the set including shipping, arrived from China in about two weeks, no complaints there.

Before and after modification - I had to cut away almost half of the cover, including the tabs, to make it fit properly.

I also then had to cut away at the rounded corners of the guitar's body itself so the covers could fit through.  Required a bit of handiwork and almost two hours of work, and I wouldn't have done it to a special super-vintage Gibson either - for this, however, I'm quite happy with the result.

  1. What did you use to grind down the plastic covers? I have some myself and also noticed they are too tall

    1. First a hacksaw, followed by a few different grits of sandpaper. I'd like to add another tip, put some duct tape (or wax if you're really ambitious) on the inside top of the pickup cover to prevent vibrations from squealing. Good luck with your project!

    2. That sounds brutal! Haha. Okay thanks. I'm gonna try out my dremel on a low setting and let you know if its easy.
